ELSAs are teaching assistants or learning mentors in schools or colleges who have been trained as Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. ELSAs help children and young people learn to understand their emotions and respect the feelings of those around them. ELSAs plan and deliver individual and small group programmes in schools with access to support from educational psychologists through group supervision and individual contact.
The Educational Psychology team will deliver 8 x 1.5 hour online webinar sessions on aspects of emotional literacy including :
There will be a mix of direct teaching, opportunities for discussion and activities. Learning will be supplemented through signposting to relevant reading and resources and take away homework activities.

To become competant in using the skills and techniques required to undertake the role of ELSA.
Attendance is required at all 8 webinar training sessions with a further committment to attend half-termly educational psychologist-led supervision sessions from January 2021 (again via webinar sessions) and a committment from the school to release their trained ELSA for at least the equivalent of one day a week for intervention, preparation and delivery.
The 2020 training fee also includes the cost of all supervision sessions from Janury - July 2021.
