A course to support teaching assistants in primary schools to work effectively with pupils with English as an additional language.

Target Audience: Teaching Assistants in schools working with pupils who have English as an additional language (both new arrivals and more 'advanced learners'). 

Training objectives

We will be looking at:
• Definitions
• How children learn English as an additional language
• Working with new arrivals: strategies and resources
• Working with advanced learners: challenges and support strategies
• Working with parents

Learning outcomes

Teaching Assistants will have a clear understanding of the research, support strategies and available resources when supporting pupils with EAL.
