Course description

An exploration of Roma culture alongside a consideration of the potential barriers to learning that Roma pupils may face in school, looking at strategies to help support pupils and their families overcome these.

Training objectives

Delegates will



  • Gain an overview of Roma language and culture

  • Consider potential barriers to learning that Roma pupils face

  • Explore ideas and strategies to engage Roma pupils and their families

Learning outcomes

Teachers will understand more about the heritage of their Roma pupils and feel more confident when planning for and working with this cohort and their families.

EMA Co-ordinators/Teachers/TAs/English Subject Leads/SENCOs and INCOs/NQTs

Cost:

  • Free to all Portsmouth schools with 'general support' or 'adviser' packages
  • Membership-only schools £100
  • £50 non-attendance fee charged to ALL school who do not give 24 hours' notice
