Course description

• Exploration of the experience of a SEND learner within the mainstream secondary setting
• Age Appropriate SEND strategies
• Discussion and development of key strategies which are often ‘low input high outcome’
• Developing Independence for Secondary SEND pupils
• The use of Teaching Assistant in mainstream secondary settings
• SEND and Mental Health within the mainstream secondary setting

Training objectives

• To identify challenges in meeting the needs of pupils with SEND within the mainstream secondary school
• To explore practical strategies for supporting pupils with SEND in the mainstream secondary school
• To consider what appropriate provision, expectations and outcomes are for pupils with a range of SEND within the mainstream secondary school

Learning outcomes

• To have established ideas which can be used within mainstream secondary settings to support pupils with SEND
• To have an increased understanding of what appropriate, meaningful expectations and provision are for pupils with SEND in the mainstream secondary context
