Course description

Stories for social understanding are about broadening understanding of social situations and reducing anxiety. They take a concept or a situation and break it down into very factual and accurate statements which combine to make a story. Commonly used for children and adults with social communication difficulties and additional needs The stories are personalised for individuals so can look very different on the surface but there is a series of rules which need to be followed to write an effective and true story for social understanding.

Sally Rogers will be leading the session.

To learn the rules required for creating a true story for social understanding

To apply the rules to create a simple story for social understanding

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

Create a social story for use in their setting

Identify examples of true stories for social understanding
