Course description

This 3-hour virtual seminar for senior managers, with pre-recorded learning video, workbook, webinar and supporting toolkit focuses on harnessing collaborative leadership from an organisation’s external partnership perspective. The interactive session will encourage leaders to explore and address the 5 key rules of successful collaborative working:

  • Recognise that partnership working is difficult

  • Only collaborate if the task requires it. Collaboration is not the answer to all problems

  • Having a shared purpose and high levels of trust is essential

  • Be a good partner by having your own house in order

  • Collaboration requires leaders to lead collaboratively

Manny has been a leader in the field of public sector partnership and collaborative working for over 17 years, first as chief executive of the Enterprise Agency in Derby and latterly as managing director for Business Link Nottinghamshire. Prior to that he was a director with Coats Viyella Plc. He is co-founder of Shared Service Architecture Ltd (SSA), a research and teaching company, specialising in equipping individuals and public sector organisations with the skills and knowledge to successfully initiate and innovative shared service solutions. He has authored six books on collaborative leadership and shared services. He has taught over 1100 senior personnel from across the public and private sectors in the skills to manage in-house shared service projects.

Manny has advised numerous public sector organisations on how to build their collaborative advantage working across local government, health and social care, further and higher education, LEPs, housing associations and police and fire services. He is a visiting lecturer at University of Derby on Collaborative Leadership. Manny is a Collaborative Transformation Architects Fellow, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a member of the Institute of Directors.

Training objectives

  1. Establishing a common goal and making it a noble cause: Developing an understanding of how collaboration gains can be created when you, as senior leaders, align your respective organisational purpose to common goals

  2. Building powerful partnerships (It’s 25% deal, 75% relationships) – Explore the relationship aspects of collaborative working and the importance of investing time and energy in ‘trust building’ and establishing strong relationships to underpin collaborative working

  3. Being an effective collaborative leader (leading beyond organisational boundaries): What it means to lead collaboratively and the positive role you can play in setting the tone and behaviours necessary to sustain powerful collaborative working
