A course to support all teachers and support staff in schools to unpick SEN in pupils who are also EAL

We will be looking at:
Is the pupil’s lack of progress related to English language acquisition?
• What is normal progress?
• Working with Bilingual Learning Assistants (BLAs)
• Developmental features
Is the pupil’s lack of progress related to factors in the school, home or community?
• the school ethos / learning environment
• classroom strategies
Is the pupil’s lack of progress related to special educational needs?
• difficulties with cognition and learning
• difficulties with communication and interaction
Strategies for pupils with both SEN and EAL/working with parents
Teachers and support staff will have a clear understanding of SEN in pupils who are also EAL, how to identify this and the support available to them from EMAS
